Winter elements arrive for Minnesota cyclocross championships

Looking out the window this morning, and watching the blowing snow at Bassett Creek Park I wondered if the state cyclocross championships might possibly be canceled.  In checking with one of the race officials, he actually seemed pleased about the conditions.  He figured there would be some good mud, given the warm soil and the fresh snow.

This is a sport for tough, hard core bikers.  Not only do they bike in often challenging elements, the course always has hills and barriers they must lift their bikes over. Sometimes they even ride or carry their bike through a volleyball court's sand pit.  Even as a pretty dedicated long distance runner, I'm extremely impressed with the level of conditioning these cyclo-cross bikers exhibit. It is inspiring to watch their tenacity.
