Sacrifices made by military families

For the past six weeks I've been single parenting. My wife, Shirley was teaching Chinese at an international school in Shanghai, China. Over that course of time I received a small sample of what military families are going through with loved ones away in service. According to an article in the MinnPost studies of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan show that roughly one in five develop post-traumatic stress disorder, depression or anxiety.

A book has been written to help us welcome home people who have been away in military service, Welcome Them Home-Help Them Heal:Pastoral care and ministry with service members returning from war.

In our busy worlds we sometimes forget about those who may be dealing with a great many stresses. I hope to be more sensitive and responsive to fractured families, particularly those have been split apart due to service.
